About the Author

"I like weird endings."

Jeannine Garsee has been telling stories since before she could write: “My dad worked in a book-binding factory. He'd bring home a piles of blank pads every week, and I'd draw scenes on every page. Later, when I learned to write, I'd add the captions—and then the captions grew longer and longer till I didn't have any room left for the pictures." As the author of three "practice" novels before she was out of high school, she never wanted to be anything except a writer, but fell under a strange, insidious spell and found herself in the nursing profession instead.

Jeannine is the author of Before, After, and Somebody in Between, Say the Word, and The Unquiet (Bloomsbury USA Children’s Books). Her essay “Fearless” was published in Dear Bully: Seventy Authors Tell Their Stories (HarperTeen). She works as a certified psychiatric nurse in a busy inner-city hospital, and lives with her family and two goofy rescue mutts in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.
